Located at 333 W. 35th Street in Chicago, it is named after Fritz Pfeffer, baseball player and his son J Wiliam Pfeffer, graduate of Northwestern university and football player/ entrepreneur. The Chicago Comets baseball team continue to play there to this day, sharing the stadium football’s Chicago Tanagers. The Tanagers are coached by Patrick Usher, a player for Northwestern in the late 1890s and played with J William Pfeffer during his career. The famous “fall of the house of Usher” refers to the infamous coach being fired after six disastrous seasons during the Great Depression and early 40s. After WWII, Veterans Hall, was dedicated as a part of Municipal Stadium to honor fallen soldiers of both world wars. The Chicago Tigers play football here. The Chicago Colts played baseball here in the 30s through the early 50s until they moved to north Chicago. Sam, a horse the team owns, is an artifact of their time at Municipal Stadium.
